Quick response by Belleville firefighters kept a small house fire in the city’s east end from spreading throughout the home Wednesday afternoon.
A homeowner on Old Highway 2 near Point Anne Road arrived home just before 3 o’clock to find the house filled with black smoke.
Firefighters responded and discovered a small smouldering fire in the basement ceiling.
That was doused and the home ventilated. No one was injured.
The incident is not considered suspicious and an investigation continues.
