A Prince Edward County winery and one of its supervisors have been fined after a workplace accident seriously injured a worker in September of 2021.
Redtail Vineyards near Consecon pleaded guilty in Picton Court earlier this month.
The winery was fined $50,000 while the supervisor, Lee Baker, was fined $2,000.
The worker was injured when a 1,200 gallon fermentation vat fell off a forklift’s forks hitting him.
A Ministry of Labour investigation found the worker, who was not fluent in English, was not trained to safely assemble the vat and no safety measures were in place.
Redtail Vineyards did provide significant assistance to the injured worker and his family including healthcare, schooling, and housing.
