Batawa Ski Racing completed another very busy week of racing across the province and once again turned in some fantastic results.
The U19 team started the week by competing in the Ontario Winter Games at Calabogie in Renfrew against stiff competition. On a difficult set of courses and in extremely challenging weather conditions, Ian Isbester won the Bronze medal in the Men’s Giant Slalom while Haleigh MacPherson won the Bronze medal in the Women’s Slalom.
On Saturday, the U16/U19 team travelled to Caledon Ski Club for a Slalom race featuring difficult course sets for both female and male racers and came away with multiple podium finishes. In the U16 Women’s race, Anabella Cowling Zeljkovic won the Silver medal and Julia Isbester captured the Bronze medal. Rachel Brady turned in a great second run to finish fifth. In the U19 Women’s race, Haleigh MacPherson won the Silver medal and Holly Liu took the Bronze medal. Molly Henderson finished sixth. In the U19 Men’s race, Spencer Dullard-Krizay completed two great runs to win the Gold medal beating his closest competitor by over three seconds. Bodin MacDonald had two strong runs to finish sixth.
On Sunday, Batawa’s U14 team was in Huntsville at Muskoka Ski Club competing in a Giant Slalom. In the Women’s race, Maya Bianchi captured the Bronze medal followed closely by Kaelin Hearn who was fourth. Peytra Papakiriazis had two strong runs to finish sixth. In the men’s race, Batawa placed three racers in the top ten including Jacob Cuel in fourth, Linden Forrest fifth and Jesse Nadolny in seventh. That completes the team’s regular race travel for the season with invitationals and home races scheduled in the coming weeks.
The Batawa U8 and U12 teams attended invitationals this past weekend. The U12 team travelled to Beaver Valley for a Terrain Kombi event where Avery Forrest won the bronze medal. The U8 team travelled to Snow Valley in Barrie for the Trudy Ellis Spirit Cup where Meghan Black was fifth in the Giant Slalom event.
