The development of the new Shirley Langer Trail in urban Belleville’s east end is costing a lot more than originally expected.
Monday city council approved a motion to add $315,000 to the project’s budget.
The budget for the trail’s parking lot and trail extension was originally just over $1 million.
Staff say contractors constantly ran into issues and there was more bedrock to be removed than originally expected.
Material costs had also increased substantially due to the pandemic.
The extra cost will be paid for by transferring $250,000 from the Parking and Trails Paving & Lighting Improvements Capital Budget and $65,000 from the Asset Management Reserve Fund.
