Some on Belleville council hope Loyalist College administration will get more involved in working with Belleville Transit to improve bus service for the growing numbers of students using the system.
During the discussion leading up to the cancellation of Thurlow’s Route 9 bus due to lack of ridership, Councillor Paul Carr suggested Loyalist should include bus fare costs in every students tuition fees.
Although Route 9 ridership was sparse, many Loyalist students used the service.
Students now pay $65 a month for bus fare, and Councillor Sean Kelly noted that that was a lot more than other colleges and universities who were including the charge in tuition fees.
Carr also suggested Loyalist apply for funding help to build more student residences to slow down the need for them to live in the wider community.
