People shopping in Belleville’s Downtown District were generous in December during the Christmas period.
Wednesday Mayor Neil Ellis presented a cheque for $10,425 to staff and board members with the Hastings Prince Edward Learning Foundation.
The money came from parking meters in the downtown during the annual Feed the Meter campaign and will go to provide nutritious breakfasts and snacks to students in the city.
Meanwhile, donations were down a little in Quinte West due to a recent decision to remove parking meters in downtown Trenton. However almost $1,000 was collected in various donation boxes.
In Picton, the Feed the Meter campaign raised almost $2,000.
Including sponsors and other types of donations the campaign raised close to $24,000 from the three communities for the purchase of food.
