Ambulance service in Hastings County is reporting that it is hitting its target of arriving within its targeted response times over the past year.
The report to the the Emergency Services Committee on Wednesday shows that in the case of “sudden cardiac arrest” a defibrillator is on-scene within six minutes, 32% of the time.
Prince Edward County reports the same target results.
The report shows ambulances on-scene 50% of the time at eight minutes to 65% of the time within 25 minutes.
The report says that challenges meeting exacting standards for cardiac arrest can be attributed to the need for paramedics to don personal protective equipment prior to arrival at the patient’s side.
Prince Edward County is faced with a large geographic area and a growing disproportional call volume serviced by Hastings County that is pushing these response time upwards.
Offload delays and staffing challenges affecting both counties were reported as a contributing factor.
Land ambulance delivery agents are required to set response times and report to the provincial government.
The Hastings and Prince Edward report goes to the provincial government before March 31, 2023.
