Permits issued were virtually the same but the construction value was significantly lower in Quinte West last month compared to the year before.
The Building Department reports 49 permits were issued in January, up one from the same month in 2022 however the construction value was less than half of what it was last year.
Last month’s permits were worth $6.4 million while the construction value from January 2022 was $13.7 million.
The city says the difference is the type of permits issued.
Last month there were 11 permits for new residential dwellings, down from the 28 issued in January 2022.
Sixteen of those 28 permits were for one of the newer subdivisions in Quinte West.
Also this year there were double the permits issued for smaller residential projects like additions, renos and garages – 16 versus last year’s eight.
