A new push is underway to help the public safely rescue animals in distress.
The education coordinator for Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre, Jess Pelow, tells Quinte News the idea is to offer the community more training on how to do this safely for both the animal and the rescuer.
“It’s an online course that any member of the community can take to learn how to safely capture and transport that animal to the hospital and also how to identify whether that animal is even in distress.”
Pelow adds, “We don’t have the resources to have our own rescue team. We rely on members of the community to notice that an animal is in distress, call us, and we walk them through how to safely capture and contain that animal. That’s how we’ve been doing it up to this point.”
Now the idea is to offer more training to the rescuers.
