The City of Belleville’s Planning Advisory Committee has approved an amendment that would change the age limit restriction for a planned special care residential building located on 228 Dundas St. East.
This stems from a public meeting held by the committee on November 7, 2022.
Following that meeting, a revised letter of support corrected the age noted in the letter from “16 and under” to “65 and under.”
The current vacant building at 228 Dundas St. East is set to house 67 units for seniors with disabilities.
The building would be split betweent two operators, Addictions and Mental Health Services-Hastings Prince Edward (AMHS-HPE) and Pathways to Independence.
AMHS-HPE would use 40 of the units for its clients, while Pathways is expected to utilize the remaining 27 units.
Despite opposition from 10 members of the public, including five at the November 7 meeting, city staff said the proposal is in line with provincial planning regulations and the city’s official plan.
City council is set to make the final decision on the building at a future meeting.
