The process to bring a big housing development to Belleville’s west end continues with a recommendation to be made by the Planning Advisory Committee later Monday.
Staff is recommending the Committee approve rezoning to allow a 10-storey apartment building on one section of the northern part of the of the former Ben Bleecker building property.
The rezoning would also allow 25 townhouses to be built right next to it. It’s expected one developer will build the apartment building and another developer will build the townhouses.
A commercial plaza is planned for the southern part of the property.
Additional housing for people with special needs in Belleville is making its way through the city’s approvals process.
At today’s meeting of the Planning Advisory Committee, staff is recommending approval of zoning changes
to allow 67 apartments for people with special needs in an existing three-storey building at 228 Dundas East.
The building has been under renovation for some time. Some residents in the area had opposed the zoning changes but city staff say the proposal is in line with provincial planning regulations and the city’s official plan.
The apartments would be managed by Addictions and Mental Health Services-Hastings Prince Edward and Pathways to Independence.
City council will make the final decision on both matters at a future meeting.
