“We’ve got to be very careful and very astute in our planning and what we can do and how we control our taxes and our spending. It’s a challenge but we’ve got a good group, a good staff, a good council and we’ll work together to do our best and keep things moving.”
He commended the work of community’s Warming Centre which is open nightly this winter, noting the increased need for support for homelessness and mental health and addictions is the biggest change he’s seen since he first became mayor in 2014.
“And, and it consumes a lot of people and it, and it breaks your heart, it does. So we’ve gotta continue to deal with it and hopefully we do win some.”
The city will be working with various partners to address mental health and addictions as well as homelessness.
Harrison praised last year’s opening of the Community Health Centre on Catherine Street in Trenton for bringing improved access to services and the recruitment work of Docs By The Bay which brought two new doctors to Quinte West in 2022 and is currently fielding interest from seven others.
