Work is on schedule and on budget so far in the process leading to the construction of a new Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital in Picton.
Director of Redevelopment James Hildebrand told Quinte Health’s Board of Directors Tuesday that 50% of the detailed design work on the estimated $80 million project has been completed.
Costing and peer reviews are also underway. It’s hoped requests for quotes will be issued in March to be followed by requests for proposals in September.
The new almost 100,000 square foot hospital will be built with sustainability in mind, featuring mass timber construction, a geothermal heating/cooling system, and a so-called green/purple roof. Environmental assessments are underway on the site which is right beside the current hospital.
The plan is to have shovels in the ground in the spring of next year with a completion date sometime in 2027.
