(Matthew Boucher (16) breaks toward the net with Kyle Betts (11) to score in the third period)
The Belleville Senators earned a point the hard way Wednesday night rallying with two goals in the third period to force overtime. But that’s where the comeback ended as the Toronto Marlies pulled out a 6-5 shootout win over the B-Sens at CAA Arena.
Matthew Boucher scored the two goals that helped Belleville tie the score.
Angus Crookshank (12th,) Cole Cassels (4th) and Kyle Betts with his first also scored for Belleville.
Coach Troy Mann said, “I thought we showed a lot of resilience to get that point. Any time you’re down by two with ten to play, it isn’t very encouraging in terms of getting two points. But I think we’ve done that all year in terms of sticking with it and being resilient.”
Toronto outshot Belleville 41-30. Kevin Mandolese stopped 35 shots.
The Senators and Marlies go again Friday night at 7:05 at the CAA Arena.
