A committee of Prince Edward County council is recommending only a cost-of-living increase for the mayor and council for this year.
County staff says the cost of living increase would be just over 6.3%. That increase would bring the mayor’s salary up to over $54,000 and a councillor’s up to just under $27,000.
Councillor Brad Nieman thought any increase should be 2% or less while Councillor Harrison wanted a zero increase.
At the meeting of the Committee of the Whole Thursday it was also recommended that each member of council have a $1,000 Health Care Spending Account
to help cover medical expenses not covered by OHIP in 2023.
The committee also directed staff to bring back a report on benefits options before the 2024 budget that would include a complete health care benefit, cellphone/internet and child
care costs.
County council will make the final decision on the recommendations.
