Flags at Quinte West City Hall have been lowered in honour of Councillor Terry Cassidy who lost his battle with cancer on the weekend.
He was 73 years old.
Cassidy was first elected as a municipal councillor in 1991. He spent a total of 23 years on council, attending his final Quinte West council meeting just last week via Zoom.
The local community is paying tribute to Cassidy.
Quinte West Mayor Jim Harrison says he was a pleasure to work with and will be missed by members of council and residents.
Cassidy was also a former Board of Health member.
Medical Officer of Health for Hastings Prince Edward Public Health Dr. Ethan Toumishey and Dr. Craig Ervine, Interim Board of Health Chair say he “was a passionate advocate for his community and the larger region of Hastings and Prince Edward Counties. Terry’s knowledge, dedication and deep commitment to the work of the Board of Health was cherished by HPEPH staff and will be greatly missed.”
Prince Edward County Mayor Steve Ferguson passed his condolences to Cassidy’s family and friends and Quinte West City Council noting “he advocated for a better community and will be missed by many across Quinte West and the region.”
Books of condolences are available in the lobby of Quinte West City Hall.
Condolences can also be left online at getinvolved.quintewest.ca.
A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at St. James the Minor Church in Stirling on Saturday, March 18 at 1 p.m.
