Prince Edward County Council has approved a new measure to show solidarity with Ukraine.
In a motion proposed by Mayor Ferguson and Councillor Roberts, Prince Edward County is now starting the process to become a ‘twin city’ of a community of equal size in Ukraine.
It hasn’t been decided yet which Ukrainian town would become Prince Edward County’s twin.
In the motion, municipal staff are instructed to begin investigating establishing a twin-city relationship between Prince Edward Council and a Ukrainian city. The arrangement is described as a symbol of solidarity between the communities, and also enabling exchanges of information and resources to aid in recovery from the war in Ukraine.
The motion also included flying the Ukrainian flag at Shire Hall until either the end of the current term of council or until hostilities cease.
The motion was passed unanimously.
