The controversial Belleville Transit Route 9 will again be discussed at city council’s February meeting.
Monday Councillor Paul Carr asked for a staff report on the ridership numbers for the route which runs just north of Highway 401 in some parts of new housing developments in Thurlow ward.
Route 9’s costs are now being paid by the provincial gas tax and not residents but that could change at the end of March when the current by-law expires.
Residents’ taxes could increase from $200 to $600 a year if the service is put on tax bills.
Carr has long considered Route 9 a waste of money due to what he considers a lack of passengers.
He is also asking for a report on what areas of the city residents are paying for transit service but not receiving it, citing the Potters Creek housing development as an example.
