The Acting President of Loyalist College says 2022 finished on a high note and they are looking strong heading into 2023.
Mark Kirkpatrick teed up the new year with Quinte News.
He says they are currently in a strong position, thanks to the vision of the Board of Governors and outgoing President Dr. Anne Marie Vaughan.
“We have a very strong executive team here at the institution. We were able to keep things moving, keep things moving forward.”
“It is going to be critical to have somebody sitting in the president’s office in the next few months, to put their stamp on things. Actually to start thinking of a vision another five years out from now.”
Kirkpatrick says because of the record enrolment in 2022 and the healthy financial position of the college, the school is in a good position for growth.
He says that growth can allow Loyalist to do much more for students and much more within the community.
He says the main challenge is adapting to the changes coming with the Province of Ontario.
“The Ministry (of Colleges and Universities) is allowing us to do some degree programming. We’re gonna have to figure out what those are, get them up, get them launched. We’re going to have to go through some of our academic review. We’ve got some apprentice programs we’d like to get up and running.”
He finished by stating the goal of Loyalist College is to become a destination.
