Sunday, January 8 is our last day of previewing area municipalities for 2023.
We turn to Madoc Township.
Mayor Lloyd Blackburn says as far as infrastructure is concerned, they are looking to be proactive in 2023.
“We still have a fairly aggressive plan where actually in the next four years we plan on paving probably six kilometres of gravel roads.”
He says due to the cost of diesel fuel and operational costs, the cost of keeping up gravel roads has gotten astronomical.
“Smart move moving forward. If I can pay for roads, it will pay for itself in six years.”
Blackburn also talked from a Hastings County perspective, where Madoc Township is one of 14 member municipalities.
“I couldn’t be more impressed with the amount of work and stuff that happens at County Council and the way they support the municipalities. Without our Hastings County Council, I think a lot of us would have trouble bringing things together.”
He finished by stating one of the largest focuses in 2023 is lobbying the province and the feds to help with tornado cleanup from last summer.
With thousands of pine trees knocked over, municipal council and staff are worried about forest fires.
