We are just a few days into 2023, but it is full steam ahead for the Town of Deseronto.
As we continue to tee up the year ahead, we chatted with Mayor Dan Johnston.
He says the smaller geographic footprint is good when it comes to infrastructure costs.
“The beauty about Deseronto is we’re 2.5 square kilometres of land and about 17 kilometres of roads. We’re able to find cost savings in many areas that other municipalities can’t. Although we’re offering the same services that all the other larger municipalities are, we’re doing it within a smaller footprint.”
Johnston adds that they have been approached about the construction of housing developments. He says they need to be a good fit.
“Our goal is to make sure that development suits the community needs today and into the future. Deseronto has the potential of looking at development opportunities throughout the municipality of about two or three larger projects, that could yield a substantial amount of new housing for the community.”
He finished by stating that coming off a strong 2022, they were able to get the right staff in the right jobs, which is going to strengthen them in the long run.
