2023 is upon us and Quinte News continues to look at the year ahead.
We had an opportunity to discuss the next 12 months with the mayor of Marmora and Lake Jan O’Neil.
A concern for this spring has to do with the wind and tornado damage from last year, as thousands of trees came down.
She says they have a major concern for the spring.
“Where the trees have come down across creeks and waterways, that’s going to create the possibility of backlogs of ice jams and flooding. Of course in the summer, there’s always that risk of fire and the longer the wood lays down on the floor of the forests, the dryer it gets and makes it more vulnerable.”
She says that is not the only focus.
“Improve our roads. We want to provide the best service we can for our residents, within our means. We want to make the municipality sustainable.”
O’Neil says there has been an influx of residents due to the pandemic, which means they are looking to provide more services.
More cell and internet towers are being constructed to help.
