As we look ahead to the new year, we chatted with the Member of Provincial Parliament for Nothumberland-Peterborough South David Piccini.
Piccini says there are infrastructure projects for this portion of the riding he has his eyes set on.
“That arena in Campbellford, with inflationary costs, we’re still laser focused on getting that done and I know groundbreaking this spring, so that will be a big piece, getting that over the finish line.”
“I’ve got a good meeting set up with Brian Ostrander to go over some of Brighton’s priorities coming up in the year ahead. I think widening the 401 is one that I am going to continue to advocate and apply pressure on MTO to expedite and continue that good work.”
Piccini says due to the pandemic, some sectors are going to be a focus in the next 12 months.
“Tourism and hospitality sectors obviously have been affected and some infrastructure we’re looking at to support that. I know that within my own portfolio of Environment, Conservation and Parks making enhancements to Presqu’ile, Sandbanks for example.”
$5.6 million is going into Ontario campgrounds.
A concern he has for the upcoming year is affordability.
The provincial government is against the increase in the carbon tax, which will increase home heating.
Piccini says the widening of the 401 is a critical project he hopes to make headway on in 2023.
He says with the billions of dollars that go across this highway, the widening is so important, not just to parts of Ontario, but the entire nation’s gross domestic product.
