Bay of Quinte MPP and Energy Minister Todd Smith report two electric vehicle fast chargers are now available at the Trenton ONroute.
There are now EV fast chargers at 18 ONroutes across the province.
Smith says Ontario is putting shovels in the ground to build critical infrastructure that will boost EV ownership, support Ontario’s growing EV manufacturing industry and reduce emissions.
This is part of a plan that will see 69 fast chargers at 23 ONroute locations along highways 401 and 400.
The provincial government says as of November 2022, there are 101,317 electric vehicles registered in Ontario and that, by 2030, one out of every three vehicles sold will be electric.
The Ivy Charging Network, a joint venture between Hydro One and Ontario Power Generation, is responsible for the installation, ownership, and operation of the fast chargers.
Ivy’s fast chargers charge 30 cents a minute to charge an electric vehicle. With a fast charger, most drivers can get a 150 km range of charge for as little as $7, depending on their vehicle.
