Prince Edward County has sent the following release announcing the end of its significant weather event declaration.
The County of Prince Edward has ended the significant weather event declaration that was issued on Friday, December 23.
- By declaring the end of the significant weather event, the County believes conditions have improved enough to allow the municipality to meet the winter maintenance objectives.
- Crews will continue to work to clear roads and sidewalks and make them safe for travelling over the next several days. Travellers should give snow plows lots of space as they clear the roads.
- Crews will be removing snow along roadsides in Picton overnight on December 29 and December 30 in the following areas: east and west ends of Picton Main Street, and several side streets including King Street and Mary Street.
- Snow has been removed along the main streets in Wellington and Bloomfield. Crews will return to clear snow on the side streets in the coming days. Follow the County on Facebook and Twitter for snow clearing updates.
- Primary sidewalks have been cleared as well as a majority of secondary sidewalks. The County is once again reminding the public that seasonal sidewalk closures are in effect. A County by-law designates specific sidewalks that will not be maintained during the winter. These are sidewalks that the municipality has not previously performed winter maintenance on or is unable to do so due to physical obstacles. View the full list of the designated sidewalks.
- Even though the significant weather event has come to an end, travellers should still exercise caution and drive according to weather conditions. High winds will result in snow drifts along some County roads.
