The Director of Education for the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board spoke to Quinte News about 2022.
Katherine MacIver says when she looks back on the last 12 months, she says it was a year of transition, but also a year of slow returns to normalcy.
On the capital projects side, MacIver says getting contractors and supplies are two major issues. Their largest project is in Belleville.
“Certainly Easthill is one of our big projects that is well underway. Looking to open in September in 2023. So our team was great and our contractors were great as far as being able to keep that project moving.”
“We also had some ventilation projects, putting in mechanical ventilation in some of our buildings. Improving and modernizing the ventilation in some of our other buildings. So those were our big projects.”
Roofing, maintenance of systems and infrastructure, and ground work also continued in 2022.
The largest challenge for those capital works were supply chain and finding contractors to do the work.
She says the funds did not go as far as they hoped, when some of the quotes were laid out.
