The MPP for Hastings-Lennox and Addington talked to Quinte News about the last 12 months.
Ric Bresee says a major concern was the homelessness issue across the country, including small communities in Hastings-Lennox and Addington.
“Which is kind of the first time that we’ve really started to see this type of problem going on. A lot of it has to do with addictions and mental health, some of it has to do with a supply of affordable housing, there’s all kinds of issues here. It’s going to take a coordinated effort between the municipalities, the county level and the provincial level, and the feds to make this happen.”
Bresee says the main issue of 2022 for many in the riding was the wind storm, followed by the tornado that struck Madoc Township, Marmora and Lake, Centre Hastings, and Tweed, among other places.
“We don’t have a program for private lands cleanup and most of the area around Tweed is actually on private land, most of the damage is on private land. I’ve been working with the minister, working with the bureaucrats in the ministry. We’ve got to come up with a new program. Unfortunately that will take time. We don’t have a good answer on that yet.”
Infrastructure and housing were also priorities for 2022.
