Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre is closed today (Saturday)
If you take anything away from this report it must be DO NOT DRIVE !
The weather has been awful since around noon yesterday (Friday) and high winds and snow squalls are expected to continue through the day today.
Transports and other vehicles are stranded and abandoned throughout our area, getting stuck
in heavy snow drifts while attempting to travel in near zero visibility.
Prince Edward County OPP closed all roads in the county before midnight and plows are only responding to emergency situations there and won’t return to regular routines until conditions improve.
Police, firefighters, and paramedics have been scrambling to rescue people from stranded vehicles, sometimes ending up getting their own vehicles stuck.
Highway 401 is a mess and OPP do not want people to access it and have closed all of the on-ramps to the 401 from Colborne east to Napanee.
As far as power outages are concerned there are widespread outages throughout our listening area but Prince Edward County, Brighton, and an area north of Trenton have been hardest hit. Hydro One has various estimates for when power might be restored, from 11 this morning to late this afternoon.
Urban Belleville, the city south of the 401 has had very few power problems, and plows continue to work the main streets.
Province-wide there were 75,000 Hydro One customers without power as of 4 a.m. Saturday.
Again, do not drive. It’s highly likely you won’t arrive at your destination.
