In just a few short days, 2022 will be at an end.
As we do every year, Quinte News turns back to the year that was.
We spoke on the issues and challenges in Hastings-Lennox and Addington with Member of Parliament Shelby Kramp-Neuman.
She says it has been a difficult year for a lot of people.
“It’s undeniable, we have been faced with so much economic uncertainty. There’s a tremendous amount of concerns when speaking with constituents, with people in the riding.”
She says affordability is at the top of the list for people in H-L&A and across Canada.
“It’s extremely concerning and right now, the increase use of food banks, the food insecurity that so many people are facing is troublesome. I think there’s certainly a lack of confidence in our government right now that they’re actually listening to Canadians.”
Kramp-Neuman says as the Official Opposition, one of their main duties is to put pressure on the government to ensure they are accountable to Canadians.
She finished by stating that while they can never stop advocating for constituents, there are many positives.
“A big win for us, my team on the ground because there’s so many troubles and concerns right now with Immigration Canada, Service Canada in general, Revenue Canada. The amount of people that our team was able to help, that is probably one of the biggest wins.”
