Humane Society Hastings Prince Edward is getting some celebrity help as it looks to raise the final $1 million needed for its new Animal Care and Community Education Centre.
Belleville native Lauren Ash, best known for her role as Dina on the hit TV comedy Superstore, is lending her support to the shelter’s Last Mile Campaign.
The Humane Society has released a video Ash and her rescue dog Peaches recorded from her home in Los Angeles.
Ash is a well-known supporter and advocate for sheltered animals.
“Now there has been incredible progress on the new shelter in Belleville and it’s down to the final stretch. The generous people of the region have already helped to raise $5 million but, we need $1 million more.”
“We are delighted, honoured and grateful to have Lauren join our efforts to encourage everyone to support the new centre,” commented Greg Sudds, chair of the It Takes Heart Campaign. “As we all know, the last mile is always the hardest, and we will need everyone to help us reach our $6 million goal.”
Animals and caregivers have moved into the new centre on Wallbridge-Loyalist Road but the $1 million will furnish the shelter and repay loans from the cities of Belleville and Quinte West.
