One person has been arrested and a stolen vehicle has been recovered after a traffic stop on Highway 401 in Trenton.
On Saturday, around 9:20 a.m., Quinte West OPP received information regarding the whereabouts of a vehicle stolen from the York region.
Police say the owner of the vehicle had equipped a GPS tracker and realized that the vehicle was on the 401 eastbound just west of Trenton.
Northumberland OPP and Quinte West OPP worked together to stop the vehicle and arrest the driver.
Fifty-nine-year-old Guy Lemieux of Laval, Quebec was charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
The accused was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville for bail on Sunday.
Ontario Provincial Police provided the following tips to prevent vehicle theft.
- Park vehicles in a locked garage as most vehicles are stolen from a driveway
- Use a steering wheel lock, which will also work as a visual deterrent
- Install a lock on your car’s data port (a simple device that can be purchased online and blocks access to the vehicle’s computer port)
