Proctor & Gamble presented a cheque for $180,000 to United Way Hastings & Prince Edward’s 2022 fundraising campaign on Thursday.
The cheque was presented outside the entrance of the P&G manufacturing plant in Belleville.
P&G was able to raise the money through its employee campaign.
Site Human Resources director for Proctor & Gamble, Patti Malloy, explained how the funds are raised through its employee campaign.
“We have payroll deduction. We do parking lot sales. We have silent auctions throughout the year. We do different product sales,” Malloy explained to media.
“Internally, we do different competitions. So we just did an ugly sweater competition and raise some funds. We’re doing decorating competitions. So we try to change things up throughout the year and try to put the theme to the season and use that opportunity to also build spirit in the community and our site as well as raise some funds.”
Malloy says the number raised is encouraging considering the potential economic turbulence heading into 2023.
“These days the economy is challenging,” said Malloy.
“For our organization, although the funds may not have been what we’ve historically done, we are very proud of the group because they still gave significantly in spite of everything else.”
While no number was given, United Way Hastings & Prince Edward says fundraising is tracking well so far.
“I think there’s been good reception from the community overall and we’re optimistic that we’re on track for a good year,” said United Way HPE Campaign Chair, Hillary Murphy.
Executive Director of United Way Hasting & Prince Edward, Brandi Hodge, says the organization will get a better sense of where they are in their campaign goal in the next few weeks.
“We won’t know for another few weeks, whether we’re going to hit that or not, or if we’re going to need a last final push at the end of January in order to get there,” Hodge told the media.
“We think we’ll be close. It feels good. It feels optimistic and people are trying to do everything that they can, and that’s really all we can ask.”
The overall total raised will be announced in February 2023.
