The Ontario Special Investigations Unit, a police watchdog, has concluded their investigation into an incident involving Quinte West OPP.
Four Quinte West OPP officers were accused of causing a miscarriage after using force during the arrest of a 24-year-old woman from Quinte West.
Police had been called to a residence in August in regards to a domestic disturbance. After verifying that all parties involved were okay and that there were no signs of abuse, the officers determined that one of the home’s residents was wanted on an outstanding warrant.
After being informed she was under arrest, the woman attempted to flee on foot. Officers caught her and after a struggle, were able to handcuff her. The woman later alleged she suffered a miscarriage two days later.
The investigation found that whether or not the woman suffered a miscarriage, the officers did not act unlawfully.
