A much-needed community counselling program is going to receive an early Christmas gift to help them address a growing waitlist for mental health support.
The Enrichment Centre for Mental Health in Belleville was selected as the chosen charity to receive a donation from 100+ Women Who Care on Wednesday night. A donation total will be released at a later date.
“We have been struggling with our community counselling program and it’s just been hammered with referrals,” said Sandie Sidsworth, executive director. “We are just stretched so tight. This money will probably extend the programs by four or five months. That’s what kind of a gift it is.”
She said between 20 and 25 people on their waitlist will get access to services thanks to the donation – “That’s a real Christmas gift.”
Like many agencies throughout Quinte, the demand for mental health services has continued to rise throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. There are currently 171 people on the waitlist for free community counselling services at the Enrichment Centre for Mental Health.
