Realtor and preserver of local history, Connie Carson is the recipient of the 2022 Peace Medal from the YMCA of Central East Ontario.
The Peace Medal celebrates an individual in the community who has made significant contributions toward peace building.
Carson, a well-known realtor in the Quinte area for over 40 years, has been an active member of several organizations and event committees including the Enrichment Centre For Mental Health, Three Oaks Foundation, Quinte Home Builders, 100 Women Who Care Quinte, Walk A Mile In Her Shoes, Children’s Safety Village, Historical Society and Canadian Real Estate Association.
She currently serves on The Belleville Heritage Committee and has written two books about seven decades spent in the City of Belleville and heads a Facebook page dedicated to “Sharing Belleville Memories.”
She also created two Facebook groups in late February 2020 at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic to help draw the community together. The first group was called “#COVID 2020″ and her idea was to share the many good deeds the city was participating in, as well as thanking the community on behalf of first responders.
The second group,”Quinte Community Sewing for COVID-19,” was formed in early March 2020, with the plan to sew as many masks, hospital gowns, ear savers and cuddle dolls as fast as possible. Volunteers made over 26,600 masks and related products that were distributed to hospitals, nursing homes, businesses, shelters and others.
David Allen, President and CEO at the YMCA of Central East Ontario says Carson is passionate about community and bringing the people of Belleville together.
Carson received the award at a ceremony on Tuesday.
