The CPR Holiday Train stopped into the Quinte region on Tuesday morning.
The train, which brings musical entertainment and financial support to Canadian food banks, came though Belleville, Trenton, and Brighton.

Belleville Mayor Neil Ellis says the funds raised and the food brought in could not come at at a better time.
“Timely, good for the food bank and they definitely need volunteers also. It’s a tough time, especially at Christmas, but the need for that has grown. It’s good to see the community out today supporting it.”

Director of Operations Susanne Quinlan says volunteers are at a premium, the price of food has gone through the roof, and the food bank is in need of financial aid, more than ever before.
“This is coming at such a crucial moment for Gleaners Food Bank. We’re down 66,000 pounds of food. We know this community will come to our aid.”

Salem Woodrow of Canadian Pacific Rail says they are thrilled to be able to help local food banks.
“Food bank use has been continuously on the rise for a number of years and CP is very happy to support food banks during a very crucial time of year, where food bank use is especially increasing.”

This year’s performances were from Tenille Townes and Aysanabee.
Between the CPR donation and in-person giving, between $15,000 and $20,000 was donated to Gleaners Food Bank Belleville, the Trenton Care and Share Food Bank, and the Brighton Fair Share Food Bank.
