It’s that time of year, a time when weather forecasters are asked to predict what the winter months will have in store for us.
Our meteorologist Kevin Williams says this will be the third winter in La Nina conditions featuring cold waters in the equatorial Pacific Ocean and complicating factors caused by recent volcanic activity affecting the jetstream.
Williams tells Quinte News says this winter’s weather forecasting is more complex than usual.
“I have pretty high confidence that after a relatively mild start, the month of December will turn rather rugged, mid-month. It looks cold and potentially snowy.”
Overall this winter Williams expects the prairies to be the hardest part of Canada when it comes to cold temperatures, saying it shouldn’t be too bad in southern Ontario where there should be some above average temperatures at times.
Williams warns that such long term forecasts should be taken with multiple grains of salt.
