Police have released more information regarding the search for a suspect that involved a heavy police presence in the north end of Belleville Thursday afternoon.
Around 11:15 a.m., Quinte West OPP were alerted to a stolen vehicle travelling east on Highway 401.
The white Dodge Durango was reported stolen in Milton overnight.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle after it exited at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road but the suspect allegedly struck a cruiser and continued south on Wallbridge-Loyalist.
Police did not pursue the vehicle for safety reasons but shortly after, witnesses reported that a similar vehicle was involved in a collision in the parking lot at Quinte Mall and the driver fled on foot.
Officers from Belleville Police, the OPP Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit assisted in a search of the area.
The suspect was located and arrested without incident near Highway 401 and Highway 62 around 1:30 p.m.
Twenty-three-year-old Youry Durogene of Montreal was charged with:
Theft of a Motor Vehicle
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
Flight from Peace Officer
Dangerous Operation; and
Possession of Break-In Instruments
The accused was held in custody for a court appearance Friday.
