Skaters in Quinte West may soon be able to enjoy the crisp outdoor winter air when they lace up their skates.
Quinte West Council has directed city staff to investigate the impacts of having outdoor rinks in the city, and to draft a policy surrounding them before the end of the year.
The request comes in response to a local resident inquiring about opening a community operated outdoor ice surface.
Outdoor rinks are common in Ontario, with other local municipalities such as Belleville having policies in place for their setup and operation.
The typical outdoor rink season lasts between mid December to mid February depending on weather.
