A former Prince Edward County resident was sentenced to an 18-month conditional house arrest after being charged with fraud by Ontario Provincial Police on Friday.
Fifty-three-year-old Michael James Fielder will serve the first nine months under house arrest at his residence in Ear Falls Township. The remaining nine months would be statutory conditions.
The case began in January of 2022 when an official with the Lehigh Cement Plant contacted investigators regarding alleged fraudulent behaviour from a former maintenance manager.
As part of the sentencing, Fielder is also to pay restitution to the company in the total of $30,000 of which $10,000 has already been paid.
The sentence was a joint agreement between the Crown and the Defense.
The Crown said the restitution represents a “small fraction of what was taken” but agreed to the sentence based on Fielder’s good character and no previous criminal record.
