A cheque for nearly $57,000 was presented to the YMCA in Belleville on Thursday.
The money was raised from the Tim Hortons’ Smile Cookie campaign.
“We think it’s a record and we feel very fortunate our YMCA has been supported by Tim Hortons locally for a number of years,” President and CEO David Allen tells Quinte News. “They’ve always been so generous to our local Y and we just feel privileged and honoured that they chose our charity and they chose the new Centre for Life to to make a contribution.”
The YMCA’s Centre for Life is a planned new building that looks to include the following.
• two pools – a traditional lap pool and a new therapy pool
• whirlpool
• gymnasium
• conditioning centre
• aerobics/exercise studios
A building campaign is underway to raise funds for the new building. Allen gave an update on how the donation will help the campaign.
“We’re in that, what we call, the quiet phase of the campaign so we’re having conversations with business people and leaders in our community. In the last three and a half months we’ve raised just over 22%. So we’re off to a good start.”
The campaign is looking to raise a total of $9 million.
