Outgoing Mayor Mitch Panciuk says he is grateful for the opportunity to have served as the City of Belleville’s mayor for the past four years.
Panciuk was defeated in Monday’s municipal election by Neil Ellis who previously served as the city’s mayor from 2006-2014.
In his statement, Panciuk congratulated the Mayor-Elect said he will work towards a successful transition for the new mayor and council.

“Our democratic process has been renewed once again and voters have chosen the next mayor and council for the next four years. I want to congratulate Mayor-Elect Neil Ellis and the eight successful city council candidates. We are grateful to all those who put their names forward and raised important issues that require attention.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have served as mayor these past four years. Our term in office will be remembered for historic progress and achievements and we are leaving the city in excellent shape to deal with the challenges and opportunities of the future. I thank all members of council, city staff and members of the public for their support and assistance over these past four years.
“Over the coming days and weeks I will cooperate and facilitate with a successful transition for the new mayor and council. Their success will be essential for the city moving forward and I will do everything I can to give them an excellent start.”
