A man faces serious weapons charges after a dog was killed Sunday night.
Belleville police say they were called to the area of Smith Road and Highway 62 after someone called with safety concerns regarding a man in a truck.
Officers responded around 9 o’clock and spoke with a man inside a vehicle who became confrontational with police.
He was quickly arrested and police found him to be in possession of a handgun. Officers then learned the man had killed his dog prior to police being called.
A 55-year-old Belleville man faces several charges including possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, and injuring or endangering an animal.
The accused appears for bail Monday.
