The weekend city-wide food drive didn’t do as well as hoped.
Director of Operations for Gleaner’s Food Bank, Susanne Quinlan, tells Quinte News that 5,000 lbs of food were donated to the food bank this past weekend.
That is significantly down from the 18 tonnes of food donated the last time they held a food drive in 2019.
This year’s food drive changed format from a door-to-door to a drive-thru format because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Quinlan tells Quinte News only 40 cars total took part in the drive-thru portion of the food drive.
She says however that thanks to volunteers with Exit Realty, the grocery store portions of the food drive were successful.
Over $1,500 was also donated to the Food Bank.
Quinlan says they are still accepting food donations at different grocery stores across Belleville.
A full list of recommended food items to donate can be found at the food bank’s website.
