The Children’s Foundation has named Aleesha Camp as the 2023 Guardian Angel Award winner, in recognition of her volunteer efforts in the community.
“Oh, it’s just a great honour. I’ve always been involved with the Children’s Foundation because it’s got such great programs and it’s such a worthy cause and always involved just because I enjoyed it and thought it was a good cause but to be honoured like this as the 2023 Guardian Angel is just icing on the cake,” Camp said, after receiving the award.
Camp, a local businesswoman and owner of two law firms, was given the Guardian Angel Award in part for her work with numerous local charities including the Children’s Foundation, YMCA, Trenton Memorial Hospital, and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
During her efforts to support charities in the community Camp often took on leadership roles according to her colleagues. Liz Lehtinen, chair of the Children’s Foundation board of directors, said that Camp’s efforts as a leader contributed to why she was chosen to receive this award.
“She’s been a leader as well. She’s chaired the YMCA Strong Kids campaign. She’s chaired our board. She chairs galas every year for the Trenton Memorial Hospital Foundation. She’s chaired many galas for us. So she’s not just on the ground doing the work. She’s also a leader and she inspires other people,” said Lehtinen.
Every year a gala is held in honour of the Guardian Angel Award winner. The 2023 Royal Ball is being held on March 4 at the Earl of Bessborough social house.
While the event is held in honour of the Guardian Angel award winner, it is also the Children’s Foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year. Last year the gala pulled in $232,000. This year’s goal is $200,000.
