For the first time in franchise history, the Belleville Senators have won their regular season opener game.
The Sens faced off against the Laval Rocket at Place Bell on Friday, and won 6-5 in overtime.
Rourke Chartier claimed the game winner during overtime. Jayce Hawryluk, Lassi Thomson, Kristian Rubins, Roby Jarventie and Viktor Lodin all scored during regular play.
While Laval scored first in the first period, the Sens tied the game 1-1 before going into second. While the Sens claimed the lead before going into the third period, Laval came back to tie the game and force overtime.
Head Coach Troy Mann was happy with the Senator’s performance
“We faced some adversity at different times through the game but managed to pull it off. I think that shows the character of our guys,” said Mann.
The Senators face off with the Rocket again on Saturday, this time at CAA Arena.
