Arrest Warrant
On September 27, 2022 at 8:00 p.m., 20-year-old Haley Podniewicz attended the Belleville Police Service to turn herself in on outstanding warrants. Podniewicz was arrested earlier this year for possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking and subsequently failed to attend her scheduled court date to answer to the charge. Consequently, a warrant was issued for her arrest. Podniewicz was later released with a court date of October 20, 2022.
Intimate Partner Assault
On September 27, 2022 at 2:45 p.m., Belleville police were called to a Benjamin Street, address for a report of an assault. It was determined through investigation that a female victim had been assaulted by her boyfriend, sustaining a minor laceration which was treated at Belleville General Hospital. As a result of the investigation, a 28-year-old Deseronto male, was arrested and charged with assault and assault with a weapon. The male was later released with a court date of the October 31, 2022. As the incident involves intimate partner violence, the accused’s name is not being released to protect the victim’s identity.
Project RENEWAL Drug Arrest
On September 27, 2022, as part of a drug trafficking investigation in the City of Belleville, Project Renewal arrested 18-year-old Matthew Carvalho of Toronto for trafficking a controlled substance. Carvalho was in possession of 10 grams of Fentanyl and $545 in Canadian currency. As a result of the investigation, Carvalho was charged with:
- Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
- Breach of a Probation Order
- Two counts of Fail to Comply with Release Order
Carvalho was held in custody pending a bail hearing on September 28, 2022.
