There are a couple more family doctors coming to Belleville.
At Belleville council’s meeting Monday Mayor Mitch Panciuk said that two more family doctors had taken advantage of the recruitment program and signed a contract promising to practise in the city for at least five years.
They are doctors Chelsey Cassidy and Robert Maillet.
In this council’s four-year term, 11 new doctors have been signed up and three confirmed.
Since the program’s inception, 43 new family physicians have taken advantage of the program which offers medical students $150,000 over six years to help pay for their education.
The recruitment program is one of the most successful in the province and has managed to surpass its goal of signing an average of two new physicians a year.
Just two weeks ago city council approved a program offering scholarships to 20 nursing students in collaboration with Loyalist College.
