The second annual Belleville Diwali Festival promises to be bigger and more spectacular this year.
Diwali is a major cultural event and holiday in India, celebrating the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. The goal of Diwali is the removal of darkness from within and is known as a festival of lights. Food is a major part of the celebrations and colourful dress is the norm.
Last year’s first local Diwali Festival packed Market Square and the chair of the city’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee Sean Kelly says the event is growing.
“There’ll be food vendors this year, a bigger celebration, music, everything so West Zwick’s Park just fits well.”
Diwali at West Zwick’s will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday October 16 and end with a fireworks display that evening.
Everyone is welcome.
