After a 33-year career as a Speech Language Pathologist in the Quinte area, Anthea Murrell is running for one of the two Trustee positions for the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board in the upcoming municipal election October 2022.
Anthea is well experienced with the school system, after contract work for Hastings Prince Edward District School Board and the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, followed by 12 years of full time employment at the Algonquin and Lakeshore Catholic District School Board. She has worked closely with students, parents and families, and school teams, and liaised with Coordinators and Superintendents in Special Education and Curriculum at the Algonquin Board, supporting a literacy initiative consistent with the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) Right To Read inquiry.
Anthea also brings some First Nations experience to the Board, having consulted at Quinte Mohawk School for 2 years, while she ran a private practice downtown Belleville on Pinnacle Street. Prior to that, Anthea spent 15 years working at Belleville General Hospital and Quinte Health Care as System Coordinator for the Preschool Speech and Language System for Hastings and Prince Edward Counties, managing a budget to support 5 clinics in North and Center Hastings, Quinte West, Belleville and Prince Edward County.
Anthea and her husband Dan have two adult children who attended St. Michael Catholic School and Nicholson Catholic College in Belleville. They’ve lived in Prince Edward County for all of their 32 years of marriage.
One year into retirement, Mrs. Murrell says she’d now like to serve in a new way, by listening to all voices, instilling more Catholic values into student life, and applying her knowledge of language disorders, learning disabilities and literacy development to advocate for all students to be able to access the curriculum with success.
